Zvartnots cathedral is a 7th-century centrally plnned aisled tetraconch type Armenian cathedral built by the order of catholicos Nerses the Builder from 643-652. Now it ruins it is located at the adge of the city of Vagharshapat.The ruins of Zvartnots remained buried until its remains were uncovered at the start of the 20th century.
Vagharshapat commonly known as Ejmiatsin is the fourth largest city in Armenia and the most populous town in Armavir province located about 18km west of the capital of Yerevan. Vorotnavank is a monastic complex located along a ridge overlooking the Vorotan gorge . The complex is surrounded by a high stone wall for defence against foreign invasions and once housed workshops, stores, a seminary, resort, cemetery and an alms-house. A pillar stood in the yard of the monastery symbolizing that there were monks entering into religious service and kings inaugurated at this location.Vorotnavank was destroyed multiple times by foreign invasions as well as an earthquake in 1931 during which S.Karapet"s dome collapsed.
